The secret to writing

Every writer, no, every person, wants to know the secret to writing.  Why?  Because writing is the key to seeing clearly.  Nearly everything we see or read, (whether we think visuals don’t start with writing has no purpose) is because the person who did WRITE the beginning wanted you to see something.  The purpose of writing isn’t to read something you wish to know.  The purpose of writing is to read something you wish to see.  If a writer truly understands writing then they understand this, that you don’t write for a reader to get something out of your writing that you didn’t wish for them to, but for the reader to get everything out of your writing that you wished for them to.  This requires the writer to write in such a way that not only every paragraph or sentence to give its meaning in which you intended, but every word, every punctuation mark, too.  The pauses are just as important as the theme and meaning.  It’s in the pauses that the reader comprehends your meaning.  So writers… write in such a way that the reader gets your meaning.  Take Mark Twain’s philosophy or Ernest Hemingway’s, either way, you come to the conclusion that writing matters, and there is a right way to write.  Continue striving for the perfect word, the perfect sentence to set up your perfect paragraph, which sets up the perfect chapter.  Eventually, enough of those, will set up your perfect… meaning.  There can be no better philosophy that sums up writing better than Stephen King’s, that great writing requires great reading.  For without great reading, great writing cannot be imagined.  And it’s the imagining that creates the great writing.  Let that sink in.

V Day

There’s a moving picture to my ten o’clock.  Freedom is what it’s telling me, freedom and unity.  Bearded, fiddling, strumming, beating, indie, country, long-haired, beautiful people surrounding one cause – military men and women.  The epitome of love, appreciation, and respect moves with streams of color and sound.  All to the heart beat of sacrifice.  The sound strikes your ears with so much devotion it could make even the world tremble with understanding…   That we are FREE.  Freedom has never been free.  Freedom requires war, and war requires freedom.  As long as men live, there will be ideals, and there will be warriors, and let’s be honest.  If history proves anything, it proves that eventually the warriors win.  Love for all the active duty and veterans out there today!  I’m beyond proud to be an American.  I’m beyond proud for the courage it takes to look fear in the face and say, “I’ll beat you.”  Simply put, exceeding hardships requires leadership.  Leadership requires followers.  I’ll follow you anywhere because it’s the valor you possess that allows us to know what valor is.  With love and appreciation, I thank you!
